AIP had the privilege of shaping these striking features at the edge of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Rash Field Park. We engineered, fabricated and installed the sculptural shade structures and the fieldhouse pavilion that now anchor the park's public spaces. The project was developed in close collaboration with Gensler and Mahan Rykiel Associates, whose vision called for lightweight, sculptural canopies that could stand up to a coastal climate while remaining architecturally refined. Translating that vision into a buildable structure required an integrated design-build approach, coordinating architectural intent, structural engineering and fabrication logistics. The shade canopies and fieldhouse structure were engineered and prefabricated in the Netherlands, then shipped for final assembly and installation on site in Baltimore. Prefabrication allowed us to hold tight tolerances and a high standard of finish under controlled conditions, while keeping on-site works efficient and minimizing disruption to the surrounding park and waterfront activity. The result is a series of freeform steel canopies and a fieldhouse building that read as one architectural family that provides shade for events and everyday park life, and give Rash Field a distinct silhouette. It's a project that reflects exactly the kind of complex & bespoke work AIP loves to take on.
